Rozanov, Sergei (Vasilievich)
Rozanov, Sergei (Vasilievich) , Russian clarinetist and pedagogue; b. Ryazan, July 5, 1870; d. Moscow, Aug. 31, 1937. He settled in Moscow and studied with Zimmermann at the Cons. (1886–90). After playing in several opera orchs. (1891–94), he was a member (1894–97) and then first clarinetist (1897–1929) in the orch. of the Bolshoi Theater. He also pursued a solo career. From 1916 until his death he taught at the Cons. He wrote studies on the schools of clarinet playing (Moscow, 1947; 7th ed., 1968) and the principles of teaching wind instruments (Moscow, 1955). He also prepared transcriptions of various works for clarinet.
