Risler, Edouard , Alsatian pianist; b. Baden-Baden, Feb. 23, 1873; d. Paris, July 22, 1929. He studied piano with Diémer at the Paris Cons. and continued his studies with Klindworth, Stavenhagen, and Eugène d’Albert in Germany. In 1923 he was appointed prof. at the Paris Cons. He gave concert recitals all over Europe and acquired a high reputation as a fine musician as well as a virtuoso pianist; he made a specialty of presenting cycles of one composer’s works; he played Beethoven’s 32 sonatas, Chopin’s complete piano works, and both books of Bach’s Well- tempered Clavier.
