Riotte, Philipp Jakob
Riotte, Philipp Jakob , German conductor and composer; b. St. Wendel, Saar, Aug. 16, 1776; d. Vienna, Aug. 20, 1856. He studied with André in Offenbach. In 1808 he settled in Vienna, where he conducted at the Theater an der Wien and produced there 48 works of his own, including operas, ballets, and minor pieces; also a Sym., 9 piano sonatas, 6 violin sonatas, etc. He was the author of the “tone picture” Die Schlacht bei Leipzig for Piano, which achieved extraordinary popularity in Germany.
