Remedios, Alberto , English tenor; b. Liverpool, Feb. 27, 1935. He studied in Liverpool with Edwin Francis and later in London with Clive Carey at the Royal Coll. of Music. He made his operatic debut as Tinca in Il tabarro at the Sadler’s Wells Opera in London in 1957; made his first appearance at Covent Garden in London as Dimitri in Boris Godunov in 1965; sang at the Frankfurt am Main Opera (1968–70). He made his U.S. debut with the San Francisco Opera in 1973; made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos on March 20, 1976. In 1983 he appeared as Walther von Stolzing at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow. He was engaged as a soloist in Schoenberg’s Gurre-Lieder in Melbourne in 1988. In 1993 he portrayed Tristan in Nashville. He was highly successful as Lohengrin, Siegfried, and Siegmund; showed fine lyrical talent as Faust in Gounod’s opera, and a dramatic flair in Verdi’s Otello
