Reber, (Napoléon-) Henri

Reber, (Napoléon-) Henri , French composer; b. Mulhouse, Oct. 21, 1807; d. Paris, Nov. 24, 1880. He studied with Reicha and Le Sueur at the Paris Cons., becoming a prof. of harmony there in 1851. He succeeded Halévy as prof. of composition in 1862 (being succeeded in turn by Saint-Saëns in 1880), and was also inspector of the branch conservatories from 1871. He publ. Traité d’harmonie (Paris, 1862; 2nd ed., 1889, ed. by T. Dubois).
