Quilico, Gino , Canadian bartione, son of Louis Quilico; b. N.Y., April 29, 1955. He received training from his parents, and then from James Craig and Constance Fischer at the Univ. of Toronto Opera Dept. On June 8, 1977, he made his operatic debut as Mr. Gobineau in The Medium with the COMUS Music Theatre in Toronto. In 1978 he sang Papageno in Milwaukee. He first appeared with the Canadian Opera Co. in 1979 singing Escamillo. Following additional studies at the École d’art lyrique of the Paris Opéra (1979–80), he made his debut with the company in Damase’s L’Héritière in 1980 and sang with it for 3 seasons. In 1982 he made his British debut with the Scottish Opera at the Edinburgh Festival. He made his first appearance at London’s Covent Garden as Gounod’s Valentin in 1983. That same year he sang Massenet’s Lescaut at his debut with the Opéra de Montréal, a role he also chose for his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. in 1987. In 1988 he appeared as Dandini at the Salzburg Festival. He sang Riccardo in I Puritani in Rome in 1990. In 1991 he appeared in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles at the Metropolitan Opera. In 1994 he was engaged as Gluck’s Oreste at the Vienna Festival. He portrayed lago in Cologne in 1996. Among his other roles are Monteverdi’s Orfeo, Don Giovanni, Dr. Malatesta, and Posa.
