Puschmann, Josef , Czech composer; b. near Bez-děz, c. 1740; d. Olomouc, Feb. 3?, 1794. After studying violin and other instruments as a child, he was in the service of Baron Skrbenský in Hoštálkovy (c. 1762–67) and Count Ignâc Dominik Chronský in Velké Hoštice (1767–77). After further training in Vienna in 1773, he was music director at Olomouc Cathedral from 1778. Among his works were 7 syms. (4 for use as graduais), 5 orch. serenades, a Violin Concerto, a Viola Concerto, 4 partitas for Winds, a Requiem, a Te Deum, and other sacred pieces.
