Purcell, Daniel
Purcell, Daniel , English organist and composer, brother of Henry Purcell; b. London, c. 1660; d. there (buried), Nov. 26, 1717. He became organist of Magdalen Coll., Oxford, in 1688; took his brother’s place as a dramatic composer in 1695, and was organist of St. Andrew’s, Holborn, from 1713. He supplied scores of incidental music to over 40 plays, and also wrote many other secular vocal works and various instrumental pieces.
