Prigozhin, Lucian (Abramovich)

Prigozhin, Lucian (Abramovich) , Russian composer; b. Tashkent, Aug. 15, 1926. He received training in piano and theory in Tashkent, and then completed his studies with Shcherbachev, Evlakhov, and Kochurov at the Leningrad Cons. He became a convinced modernist in his music, introducing the concept of “supplementary tones” in the 12-tone method of composition by allowing members of the tone-row to permutate freely. However, he preserved the basic tonality even when he no longer used the key signatures.
