Piani, Giovanni Antonio
Piani, Giovanni Antonio, Italian violinist and composer; b. Naples, 1678; d. probably in Vienna, after 1757. He was a student of Vincipro va and Cailò at the Cons, della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples. In 1704 he went to Paris, and by 1712 was principal violinist to Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Count of Toulouse and admiral of the French fleet. From 1721 he was a musician at the imperial court in Vienna. He publ, a vol. of 12 sonatas, 6 for Violin and Continuo and 6 for Flute or Violin and Continuo (1712).
