Peskanov, Mark,Russian-born American violinist; b. Odessa, Aug. 30, 1956. He entered the Stoliarsky School of Music in Odessa at age 7, where he was a pupil of Boris Brant. In 1973 he emigrated to the U.S., where he pursued studies with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in N.Y. (B.A., 1979). On Nov. 1,1977, he made his debut as soloist in Wieniawski’s 1st Violin Concerto with Rostropovich and the National Sym. Orch. in Washington, D.C. During the 1978–79 season, he made his London debut with Rostropovich and the London Phil. In 1985 he won the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 1st Isaac Stern Award of N.Y.’s Carnegie Hall. After appearing as soloist with the Philadelphia Orch. at the Mann Music Center in 1987, he received the 1st Frederick R. Mann Young Artist Award. Subsequently, he was engaged as soloist by many principal American orchs.; he also appeared as a chamber music artist in the U.S. and abroad. He made frequent appearances with the Chamber Music Soc. of Lincoln Center in N.Y.
