Pedrollo, Arrigo, Italian composer and pedagogue; b. Montebello Vicentino, Dec. 5, 1878; d. Vicenza, Dec. 23, 1964. He studied at the Milan Cons. (1891–1900); at his graduation, he wrote a Sym., which was performed by Toscanini. He was the director of the Istituto Musicale in Vicenza (1920–30), then was a prof, of composition at the Milan Cons. (1930–41); from 1942 to 1959 he was director of the Vicenza Cons. In 1914 he won the Sonzogno competition with his opera Juana. His other operas include Terra promessa (Cremona, 1908), La Veglia (Milan, Jan. 2, 1920), L’Uomo che ride (Rome, March 6, 1920), Maria di Magdala (Milan, 1924), Delitto e castigo, after Dostoyevsky (Milan, Nov. 16, 1926), L’Amante in trappola (Verona, Sept. 22, 1936), and II Giglio di Ali (1948). He also wrote orch. pieces, chamber music, choral works, and songs.
