Pampanini, Rosetta

Pampanini, Rosetta, Italian soprano; b. Milan, Sept. 2,1896; d. Corbola, Aug. 2,1973. She studied with Emma Molajoli in Milan. She made her operatic debut as Micaëla in Rome in 1920, and then continued her vocal studies. In 1925 she joined La Scala in Milan, remaining on its roster until 1937, with the exception of the 1931–33 seasons; also sang at Covent Garden in London (1928, 1929, 1933) and in Chicago (1931–32). After retiring in 1942, she taught voice. She was particularly admired for her Puccini roles, most notably Manon, Cio-Cio-San, and Mimi.
