Palmer, Larry, American harpsichordist, organist, and teacher; b. Warren, Ohio, Nov. 13,1938. He studied at the Oberlin (Ohio) Coll. Cons, of Music and with David Craighead (organ) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. (D.M.A., 1963). He also received training in harpsichord from Ahlgrimm at the Salzburg Mozarteum and from Leonhardt in Haarlem. In 1969 he became the harpsichord ed. of The Diapason. From 1970 he served as prof, of harpsichord and organ at Southern Methodist Univ. in Dallas. He also toured widely as a harpsichordist and organist in the U.S. and Europe. He publ, the vols. Hugo Distler and his Church Music (1967) and Harpsichord in America: A 20th Century Revival (1989; 2nd ed., 1992). Palmer has championed the organ music of Distler and has performed an extensive repertoire of harpsichord music, ranging from the 17thcentury to the present era.
