Ornithoparchus (Greek form of his real name, Vogelsang), Andreas
Ornithoparchus (Greek form of his real name, Vogelsang), Andreas, German musk scholar; b. Meiningen, c. 1485; d. Münster, c. 1535. He matriculated at the Univ. of Rostock (M.A., 1512) and at the Univ. of Tübingen (M.A., 1515). He was rector of the parochial school in Münster in 1515, and also matriculated at Wittenberg (1516), Leipzig (1516), and Greif-swald (1518). He publ. a valuable theoretical treatise, Musice activae micrologus (Leipzig, 1517; 6th ed., 1540; Eng. tr. by J. Dowland, London, 1609; reprint 1977).
