Orlandi, Ferdinando
Orlandi, Ferdinando, Italian composer and singing teacher; b. Parma, Oct. 7, 1774; d. there, Jan. 5, 1848. He was a pupil of Gaspare Rugarli, the Colorno organist, of Gaspare Ghiretti and Paër in Parma, and of Sala and Tritto at the Cons, della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples (1793–99). In 1800 he became a member of the ducal chapel in Parma. He then went to Milan, where he taught at the Reale Casa dei Paggi (1806–14) and at the Cons. (1814–22). After teaching in Munich (1822–23) and Stuttgart (1823–28), he served as director of singing at the Teatro Ducale in Parma from 1834 to 1848. He was also honorary maestro di cappella at the court. Among his works were 26 operas, chamber music, and sacred pieces.
