Orefice, Giacomo

Orefice, Giacomo, Italian pianist, music critic, teacher, and composer; b. Vicenza, Aug. 27, 1865; d. Milan, Dec. 22, 1922. He studied piano with Busi and composition with Mancinelli at the Bologna Liceo Musicale (diploma, 1885). He taught at the Milan Cons. (1909–22); was also active as a music critic. He publ. the study Luigi Mancinelli (Rome, 1921); ed. Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Milan, 1909) and Rameau’s Platée. As a composer of operas, he followed in the verismo school.
