Olitzka, Rosa
Olitzka, Rosa, German-American contralto and teacher, aunt of Walter Olitzki; b. Berlin, Sept. 6, 1873; d. Chicago, Sept. 29, 1949. She studied with Julius Hey in Berlin and with Désirée Artôt in Paris. She sang at Berlin (1891), then was engaged at the Hannover Opera (1892–93), at Covent Garden in London (1894), and in N.Y. with the German Opera Co. (1895–97); was also with the Metropolitan Opera (1895–97; 1899–1901). After a season with the Chicago Grand Opera (1910–11), she made guest appearances in opera and concert in Europe and North America. She later taught voice in Chicago.
