Obukhova, Nadezhda (Andreievna)
Obukhova, Nadezhda (Andreievna), Russian mezzo-soprano; b. Moscow, March 6, 1886; d. Feodosiya, Aug. 14, 1961. She studied with Masetti at the Moscow Cons., graduating in 1912. She made her operatic debut at the Bolshoi Theater there in 1916 as Pauline in The Queen of Spades; remained on its roster until 1948. In addition to the Russian repertoire, she was noted for her portrayals of Carmen, Dalila, Amneris, and Fricka. She was greatly esteemed in Russia; in 1943 she was awarded the State Prize of the U.S.S.R.
