Noni, Alda
Noni, Alda, Italian soprano; b. Trieste, April 30, 1916. After studies in piano and voice in Trieste, she pursued vocal training in Vienna. In 1937 she made her operatic debut as Rossini’s Rosina in Ljubljana, and then sang in Zagreb, Belgrade, and Trieste. She was a member of the Vienna State Opera (1942–44), where she sang the role of Zerbinetta at Strauss’s 80th birthday celebration in 1944. In 1946 she appeared as Norina in London. In 1949 she sang with the Glyndebourne Opera at the Edinburgh Festival, and then appeared at Glyndebourne (1950; 1952–54). From 1949 to 1953 she also sang at Milan’s La Scala. Among her notable roles were Despina, Papagena, Zerlina, Nannetta, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, and Oscar.
