Ney, Elly
Ney, Elly, German pianist and pedagogue; b. Düsseldorf, Sept. 27, 1882; d. Tutzing, March 31, 1968. She was a piano student of Leschetizky and Sauer in Vienna.
She made her debut in Vienna in 1905, and gave successful recitals in Europe and America. She then devoted herself mainly to teaching, living mostly in Munich. From 1911 to 1927 she was married to Willem van Hoogstraten; in 1928 she married P.F. Allais of Chicago. She publ. an autobiography, Ein Leben für die Musik (Darmstadt, 1952; 2nd ed., 1957, as Erinnerungen und Betrachtungen; Mein Leben aus der Musik).
