Neubauer, Franz Christoph, Czech violinist and composer; b. Melnik, March 21, 1750; d. Bückeburg, Oct. 11, 1795. He was taught violin by the village schoolmaster and led a wandering life. He produced an operetta, Ferdinand und Yariko, in Munich (1784), and then proceeded to Vienna, where he met Mozart and Haydn. From 1790 to 1794 he served as Kapellmeister to Prince Weilburg, and in 1795 he succeeded Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach as court Kapellmeister at Bückeburg. He was a prolific composer, numbering among his pubi, works 10 syms. (1791–95), La bataille for Orch. (1794; contains sounds imitative of battle), Flute Concerto (1795), Piano Concerto (pubi. 1798), Cello Concerto (n.d.), 25 quartets (1785–93), various chamber music pieces, choral works, songs, and piano pieces.
