Neri, Giulio

Neri, Giulio, Italian bass; b. Turilla di Siena, May 21, 1909; d. Rome, April 21, 1958. He studied with Ferraresi in Florence. He made his operatic debut at the Teatro delle Quattro Fontane in Rome in 1935, then sang at the Teatro Reale dell’Opera in Rome, where he soon established himself as a principal bass; also made guest appearances at La Scala in Milan, Florence, Venice, London, and Munich. An outstanding Verdi interpreter, he was equally distinguished as a Wagnerian.
