Mortelmans, Ivo (Oscar)
Mortelmans, Ivo (Oscar) , Belgian conductor, teacher, and composer, son of Lodewijk Mortelmans; b. Antwerp, May 19, 1901; d. Ostend, Aug. 20, 1984. He studied at the Antwerp Cons., and upon graduation, taught academic subjects and theory in Berchem (1925–66), Deurne (1939–70), and Mortsel (1946–67). He was also active as an opera conductor. He wrote an oratorio, Eeuwig vlecht de bruid haar kroon (1964), and numerous other choral works, both sacred and secular.
