Morillo, Roberto García
Morillo, Roberto García, Argentine composer and music critic; b. Buenos Aires, Jan. 22, 1911. He studied composition with Aguirre and Juan José Castro; later took courses with Gaito and Ugarte. From 1926 to 1930 he was in Paris. Returning to Argentina, he taught at the National Cons. in Buenos Aires and wrote music criticism for La Nación. He publ. monographs on Mussorgsky (1943), Rimsky-Korsakov (1945), and Carlos Chávez (1960); also Julian Bautista en la música española contemporânea (1949). His music is marked by propulsive rhythms and a strong sense of dissonant counterpoint.
