Mombelli, Domenico
Mombelli, Domenico, Italian tenor and composer; b. Villanova, Feb. 17, 1751; d. Bologna, March 15, 1835. He made appearances throughout Italy from 1780. In 1786 he married Luisa Laschi, and sang with her in Vienna until 1788. After her death, he married Vincenza Vigarnò. She wrote the libretto for Rossini’s first opera, Demetrio e Polibio, and her husband created its role of Demetrio (Rome, May 18, 1812). In 1816 he retired from the operatic stage and then was active as a voice teacher in Florence and Bologna.
