McGlaughlin, William

McGlaughlin, William, American conductor; b. Philadelphia, Oct. 3, 1943. He studied at Temple Univ. (B.M., 1967; M.M., 1969). He played trombone in the Pittsburgh Sym. Orch. and the Philadelphia Orch., and was founder-conductor of the Pittsburgh Sym. Players and the Pittsburgh Camerata (1973). He became asst. conductor of the Pittsburgh Chamber Orch. in 1975; was also a conductor with the St. Paul (Minn.) Chamber Orch. (1975–78). He was music director of the Eugene (Ore.) Sym. Orch. (1981–85) and the Tucson Sym. Orch. (1983–87). In 1986 he became music director of the Kansas City (Mo.) Sym. Orch. He also was the congenial host of the successful public radio program “St. Paul Sunday.”
