Märzendorfer, Ernst
Märzendorfer, Ernst, Austrian conductor; b. Oberndorf, May 26, 1921. He was a student in Graz and of Krauss at the Salzburg Mozarteum. In 1940 he began his conducting career in Salzburg. He conducted at the Graz (1945–51) and then Salzburg (from 1951) Landestheaters. From 1951 he taught conducting at the Mozarteum. In 1952–53 he conducted at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. From 1953 to 1958 he was conductor of the Mozarteum Orch., which he led on a U.S. tour in 1956. He subsequently conducted throughout Europe. He also recorded all the Haydn syms. with the Vienna Chamber Orch. (1969–71) and prepared a completion of Bruckner’s 9th Sym. (1969).
