Marxsen, Eduard
Marxsen, Eduard, German pianist, organist, teacher, and composer; b. Nienstadten, near Altona, July 23, 1806; d. Altona, Nov. 18, 1887. He studied with his father, an organist, in Altona, then with J.H. Clasing in Hamburg; went to Vienna (1830) to continue his training with Bocklet (piano) and I. Seyfried (composition). He settled as a teacher in Hamburg (1834), where Brahms later became his pupil. He wrote orch. music, piano pieces, songs, and other works.
