Martinez, José Daniel
Martinez, José Daniel, Puerto Rican composer and pianist; b. San Juan, Sept. 8, 1956. He studied with Luis Antonio Ramirez and Luz N. Hutchinson at the Cons, of Music in Puerto Rico (certificate of diploma, 1975) and at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. (B.A. in composition, 1977; M.A. in piano, 1980). He taught piano and theory at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester (1977–80) and at the Cons, of Music in Puerto Rico (1981–82); in 1982–83 he worked as an accompanist in N.Y. In 1985 he made a recording of Puerto Rican “Danzas” for the Círculo de Recreo de San German, where he subsequently taught at the Interamerican Univ. of Puerto Rico.
