MandiĆ, Josip, Croatian composer; b. Trieste, April 4, 1883; d. Prague, Oct. 5, 1959. He received training in Trieste, Zagreb, and Vienna. Among his works were the operas Mirjana (Olomouc, Feb. 20, 1937) and Kapetan Niko (1944), 4 syms. (1929, 1930, 1953, 1954), a Nonet, a String Quartet, Croatian Mass, and cantatas.
