Lloyd Webber, Julian
Lloyd Webber, Julian, talented English cellist, brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber; b. London, April 14, 1951. He studied with Douglas Cameron (1964–67), at the Royal Coll. of Music in London (1967–71), and with Pierre Fournier in Geneva (1973). He made his London debut as soloist in the Bliss Cello Concerto in 1972, and subsequently played many engagements as a soloist with English orchs. He made his American debut in N.Y. in 1980. In 1978 he became prof. of cello at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He publ, an account of his career, Travels with My Cello (1984), and also ed. Song of the Birds: Sayings, Stories and Impressions of Pablo Casals (London, 1985). His exhaustive repertoire embraces both traditional and contemporary works, ranging from Haydn to Rodrigo.
