Lipkin, Malcolm (Leyland)
Lipkin, Malcolm (Leyland), English composer, pianist, and teacher; b. Liverpool, May 2, 1932. He studied piano with Gordon Green in Liverpool. Following further piano training from Kendall Taylor at the Royal Coll. of Music in London (1949–53), he studied composition privately with Seiber (1954–57). He later received his doctorate from the Univ. of London (1972). In 1951 he made his debut as a pianist performing his 3rd Piano Sonata at the Gaudeamus Foundation Music Week in the Netherlands; in 1952 he made his London debut playing the same score. He served as a tutor for the external dept. of the Univ. of Oxford (1965–75) and for the School of Continuing Education at the Univ. of Kent (from 1975).
