Legrense, Johannes, French music theorist, known as Gallicus; b. Namur, c. 1415; d. Parma, 1473. He received training in voice in Namur, and then pursued academic studies with Vittorino da Feltre in Mantua, where he became a Carthusian monk. His mostimportant treatise was Libelli musicalis de ritu canendi vetustissimo et uovo. He also wrote the treatises Praefationcula in tam admirabilem quam tacitam et quietissimam novorum concinetiam and Tacita nunch inchoatur stupendaque numerorum musica.
