Kroll Oper. Ger. opera house in Berlin, extant 1924–31. Was planned by Wilhelm II in 1896, the Theater am Königplatz (orig. built by Joseph Kroll in 1844) being purchased. Delays postponed opening until 1924, as home of Berlin's Grosse Volksoper. Under Klemperer 1927–31, the Kroll was among most adventurous opera houses of world, performing many contemp. works, e.g. by Stravinsky, Janáček, Hindemith, and Schoenberg. Nazis took over th. as home of Reichstag, 1933.
