Kincaid, William
Kincaid, William, outstanding American flutist and pedagogue; b. Minneapolis, April 26, 1895; d. Philadelphia, March 27, 1967. He studied flute with Georges Barrere at the Inst. of Musical Art in N.Y., then played in the N.Y. Sym. Orch. (1914–18). In 1921 Stokowski engaged him as 1st flutist of the Philadelphia Orch., a position he held with great distinction until his retirement in 1960; he also was a distinguished teacher at the Curtis Inst. of Music, where he taught a number of noted flutists. He maintained a valuable collection of historic flutes, his own instrument being a specially made platinum flute.
