Kéler-Béla (real name, Adalbert Paul [Al-brecht Pâl] von Kéler)
Kéler-Béla (real name, Adalbert Paul [Al-brecht Pâl] von Kéler), noted Hungarian violinist, conductor, and composer; b. Bartfeld, Feb. 13, 1820; d. Wiesbaden, Nov. 20, 1882. He was a law student, and then became a farmer. He finally took up music in 1845, studying under Sechter and Schlesinger in Vienna, and playing the violin at the Theater-an-der-Wien. He went to Berlin to conduct the Gungl Orch. (1854–55) and to Vienna to conduct Janner’s orch. (1855–56), then was bandmaster of the 10th Austrian Infantry Regiment (1856–63). From 1863 to 1873 he conducted the Wiesbaden Spa Orch. He wrote numerous dances and other light pieces, some of which attained enormous popularity, including the waltz Hoffnungssterne, the galop Hurrah- Sturm, and particularly the Lustspiel Ouverture.
