Kaienberg, Josef
Kalenberg, Josef, German tenor; b. Cologne, Jan. 7, 1886; d. Vienna, Nov. 8, 1962. He received his training at the Cologne Cons. In 1911 he made his operatic debut as Turiddu at the Cologne Opera. After singing in Krefeld (1912–16), Barmen (1919–21), Düsseldorf (1921–25), and Cologne (1925–27), he made his first appearance at the Vienna State Opera as Parsifal in 1927, remaining on its roster until 1942. He also sang at the Salzburg Festivals (1928–36) and made guest appearances in France, Italy, and England before retiring in 1949.
