Kagan, Oleg , Russian violinist; b. Sakhalin, Nov. 22,1946; d. Munich, July 15,1990. He was a pupil at the Latvian State Cons. in Riga before going to Moscow, where he studied with Boris Kuznetsov and David Oistrakh at the Central Music School; then completed his training at the Cons. After taking prizes in the Enesco (Bucharest, 4th, 1964), Sibelius (Helsinki, 1st, 1965), Tchaikovsky (Moscow, 2nd, 1966), and Bach (Leipzig, 1st, 1968) competitions, he toured as a soloist with orchs., a recitalist, and a chamber music artist. Kagan often appeared in duo concerts with his wife, Natlia Gutman.
