Jozzi, Giuseppe
Jozzi, Giuseppe, Italian castrato soprano, harpsichordist, and composer; b. probably in Rome, c. 1710; d. probably in Amsterdam, c. 1770. He sang in various theaters in Rome (1729–40). After appearances in Venice, Milan, and Bologna (1740–45), he sang in London at the Haymarket Theater. While in London, he appeared as a harpsichordist playing sonatas by Domenico Alberti, which he publ, under his own name. Walsh later publ, them under Alberti’s name (1748). Jozzi sang in Stuttgart from 1750 to 1756. The Alberti sonatas were republ. in Amsterdam under Jozzi’s name (1761, 1765). Jozzi’s own sonatas are closely patterned after those of Alberti.
