Jong, Marinus de

Jong, Marinus de, Dutch-born Belgian composer, pianist, and pedagogue; b. Osterhout, Aug. 14, 1891; d. Ekeren, June 13, 1984. He was a student of Bosquet (piano) and Mortelmans (composition) at the Antwerp Cons. After touring Europe and the U.S. as a pianist, he settled in Belgium in 1926 and was made a prof, of piano (1931) and of counterpoint and fugue (1948) at the Antwerp Cons. His works were in a neo-impressionistic style, with polytonal counterpoint as its mainstay.
