Jenkins, David

Jenkins, David Welsh choral conductor, composer, and editor; b. Trecastell, Breconshire, Dec. 30, 1848; d. Aberystwyth, Dec. 10, 1915. He studied with Joseph Parry at Univ. Coll. of Wales, Aberystwyth (1874–78), and was awarded the Mus.B. externally by the Univ. of Cambridge (1878). He was made instructor (1882), lecturer (1899), and prof. (1910) at Univ. Coll. of Wales, and was ed. of the music periodical Y Cerddor(1889-1915). He was widely known as a choral conductor in Welsh communities in his homeland and in the U.S. He composed many choral works and hymn tunes.
