Jacotin
Jacotin
Jacotin, a name applied to several musicians who flourished in the first half of the 16th century. It is now believed that Jacotin Le Bel (b. c. 1490; d. c. 1555), a singer in the Papal Chapel and the church of S. Luigi dei Francesi in Rome (1516–21), was the composer of the esteemed chansons publ, mainly by Attaingnant. A Jacotin Le Bel is also listed as a singer and canon at the French royal chapel (1532–55); he may be identical to the preceding. Some 30 chansons by Jacotin were publ, in contemporary collections, but only a few motets and Magnificat settings are extant.
