Jackson, Francis (Alan)
Jackson, Francis (Alan), English organist, conductor, and composer; b. Malton, Yorkshire, Oct. 2, 1917. He studied with Bairstow in York, then was made a Fellow of the Royal Coll. of Organists (1937) and later studied at Durham Univ. (D.Mus., 1957). He was organist of Malton Parish Church (1933–0), Master of the Music at York Minster (1946–82), and also conductor of the York Sym. Orch. (1947–80); made numerous tours of Europe and North America as an organist. He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (1978). He wrote a Sym., choral works, and much music for the organ.
