Horvat, Milan, Yugoslav conductor; b. Pakrac, July 28, 1919. He was educated in Zagreb, studying law at the Univ. and taking courses with Svetislav Stancic (piano), Fritz Zaun (conducting), and Zlatko Grgosevic (composition) at the Academy of Music (1939–6). In 1945 he became conductor of the Zagreb Radio Chorus, and from 1946 he conducted the Zagreb Radio Orch. From 1953 to 1958 he conducted the Radio Telefis Eireann Sym. Orch. in Dublin. He was music director of the Phil. (1956–70) and Opera (1958–65) in Zagreb. After serving as chief conductor of the Austrian Radio Sym. Orch. in Vienna (1969–75), he held that title with the Zagreb Radio Orch. (from 1975). As a guest conductor, he appeared widely in Europe.
