Hollander, Lorin
Hollander, Lorin, talented American pianist; b. N.Y., July 19, 1944. He began his training with his father, a violinist, and then was a student of Steuermann (piano) and Giannini (composition) at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. He also had instruction from Max Rudolf, Leon Fleisher, and Olga Stroumillo. He was only 11 when he made his Carnegie Hall debut in N.Y., and soon began appearing throughout the U.S. After his first tour of Europe in 1965, he performed with many of the leading orchs. around the world. As an advocate of musical outreach, he also played in such non-traditional settings as hospitals, nursing homes, and prisons. Hollander’s extraordinary technique has been displayed in a virtuoso repertoire ranging from the masters of the past to the contemporary era.
