Hol, Richard
Hol, Richard, Danish organist, conductor, and composer; b. Amsterdam, July 23, 1825; d. Utrecht, May 14, 1904. He was a student of Martens (organ) and Bertelmann (theory). In 1862 he went to Utrecht as municipal music director, after which he was Cathedral organist (1869–87) and director of the Stedelijke Musiek school (1875–1904). He also was active in The Hague as conductor of the Cecilia men’s chorus (1875–1901) and the Diligentia orch. (1886–1901), and served as co-conductor (with J. Coenen) of the Amsterdam paleis voor Volksvlijt Orch. (from 1891). He was ed. of Het Orgel (1886–90) and publ. a monograph on Sweelinck (1859). His autobiography appeared in 1903.
