Hodgson, Alfreda (Rose)
Hodgson, Alfreda (Rose), English contralto; b. Morecombe, June 7, 1940; d. there, April 16, 1992. She received training at the Northern School of Music in Manchester. In 1961 she made her concert debut in Liverpool, followed by her first appearance in London (in 1963). In subsequent years, she appeared as a soloist with all of the principal British orchs.; her concert engagements abroad took her to Israel, the U.S., and Canada. She also appeared in opera, singing for the first time in London at the English National Opera in 1974 and at Covent Garden in 1983. Her concert repertoire ranged from Bach to Britten.
