Hidas, Frigyes

Hidas, Frigyes, Hungarian composer; b. Budapest, May 25, 1928. He was a student of Viski at the Budapest Academy of Music. He served as music director of the National Theater in Budapest (1951–66), and then at the Municipal Operetta Theater in Budapest (1974–79). In subsequent years, he devoted himself solely to composition. In 1959 and 1980 he was awarded the Erkel Prize. In 1986 the Hungarian government made him a Merited Artist.
