Havemann, Gustav
Havemann, Gustav, German violinist and teacher; b. Güstrow, March 15, 1882; d. Schöneiche, near Berlin, Jan. 2, 1960. He was a pupil of Joachim at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik and, while still a youth, played in the Schwerin Court Orch. He was concertmas-ter in Lübeck, Darmstadt (1903–09), and of the Hamburg Phil, (from 1909). In 1911 he became a teacher at the Leipzig Cons. After serving as concertmaster of the Dresden Court (later State) Opera Orch. (1915–20), he wasa prof, at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik (1920–45). He also was founder-lst violinist of the Havemann Quartet, which played much modern music. He publ. Die Violintechnik bis zur Vollendung (2 vols., Cologne, 1928).
